How to have a stress free wedding day

Thursday, March 12th, 2015

stress free wedding dayEveryone has a different idea of what is the ideal or perfect wedding day. Whether your wedding has a large attendance or is more of smaller group there are some things to remember to ensure the day goes well, is special and relaxing for you, your partner and all your guests.

Leading up to the wedding

  • Give yourself plenty of time to plan your day, of course there are always those last minute weddings that can run seamlessly and turn out to be fantastic occasions but if your day is for a large group then you need at least six months to plan it.  The wedding party and certain suppliers (wedding dress shops etc.) may need at least a years notice.
  • If you are marrying in a Church then check the procedures required with the local Priest. A Registry office will have simpler procedures but you must book well in advance and ask their advice about what is required. With the new civil laws in Ireland, you can marry in certain locations other than a church so enquire about this is this is your wish.
  • Enquire about your preferred wedding venue for your reception well in advance, the bigger and more elegant the more likely they are to be booked.
  • Wining and dining your guests is an important part of the day. It is easier to have a venue that will cater your wedding rather than organising outside catering. Bringing in caterers to an unusual space can be stressful and tricky unless you have a larger budget or if you have a wedding planner. A venue with a good reputation for food and wine will make the whole experience professional and will take a weight off your shoulders. They will suggest a menu to suit most budgets and wines to match. Sticking with safe and popular options is usually best for a larger wedding but if you have a smaller group of guests and know their tastes, you can be more adventurous. You won’t please everyone so accept that at the outset!

  • Dresses for you and your bridesmaids need planning and attention but take the stress out of this by visiting a good wedding dress-maker. Choosing the right shape for you is essential and ignore current trends that may not suit you or your bridesmaids.  Remember the upper part of the dress and the back is what people notice most so focusing on these is a good idea.
  • Professional make-up and hair is always a treat, you will be too nervous to do it yourself. Choose your flowers for bouquets from a local source well in advance so they arrive easily on the day or check out silk flowers online as the quality is amazing and can work out quite reasonable.

The big day

  • Arriving at your wedding in style is important as it sets the tone of the day. Hiring a good dublin limousine company will make you feel special and glamorous. There are many types of cars to choose, from an elegant Beauford or Regent to a Lincoln Town Car stretch in Silver or Champagne Gold. A professional hire company will be experience with these occasions and can help in making you calmer. You will enjoy the quiet time travelling in the car so make the most of it in the midst of the madness of the day.
  • Make sure you capture the day perfectly by hiring a professional photographer; he/she will know how to cover the whole occasion and ensure you have a book of wonderful memories. Give them a list of anything specific you want taken before the wedding to make things more efficient. Your best and most natural photographs will be the ones where you forget the photographer is there.
  • Ensure you have made some provision if you have quite a few children at the wedding. Special food, party packs and possibly some entertainment will keep them happy and minimise any disruption to your day.
  • Remember to relax, enjoy your day and smile throughout. You can be sure there will be a few hitches but keep in mind that the most important part of your wedding is the ceremony; the rest should be fun and enjoyable. The day will go fast so savour every wonderful moment.
